General Database Scavenger Hunt

At a computer terminal in the school library,

  1. Go to the Southwest Early College Library Website at: index.htmllibrary.html.
    Click on the "SEC Library Catalog-In School Access" at the top of the screen. In the Quick Library Catalog Search box, type "Fever Pitch" in keyword search box. Click the "Go" button or press "enter" on the keyboard.
  • Who is the author of this book?

  • Does Southwest Early College have a copy of this book?

  • What is the Call Number?

  • Is it available for checkout?
  1. Go to the Southwest Early College Library Website at: index.htmllibrary.html.
    Click on the "Online Databases" link. Find Encyclopedia Britannica under the heading "Encyclopedias" on the page. Click on the link to Encyclopedia Britannica. This will take you to a login screen. Type the username and password in the appropriate boxes. (Note: the username is your Last Name and the password is your DPS ID# or use Login: SWEC and Password: 999485)

    Type "tsunami" in the search box.
  • How many results do you find?

  • Click on the "Web's Best Sites" under Additional Content on the top right of the screen. How many results do you find?

  • Click on "Journals and Magazines" under Additional Content on the top right of the screen. How many articles do you find?
  1. Go to the Southwest Early College Library Website at: index.htmllibrary.html.
    Click on the "Online Databases" link.
  • What type of database is ABC-CLIO?

  • Click on the link. If it asks you to login, type the username and password in the appropriate boxes. (Note: the username is your Last Name and the password is your DPS ID# or use Login: SWEC and Password: 999485) Click on "Topic Explorations." Name two types of topic explorations located on the site and the years they cover.

  • Type the word "Slavery" in the search box.

  • How many essays are available?

  • How many biographies?

  • How many images?

    Click on "gangs" in the list.
  • How many Viewpoint Essays are found?

    Click on the "Online Databases" link. Find the NetTrekker Database on the page under the heading "General Reference including Science & Technology."     Type "Emperor Penguin" in the Keyword box.
  • How many web sites are found?

  • Click on the "Pictures" tab. Of the web sites found, how many contain pictures?

  • Go back to the Search Results Page and find the first web site listed. Click on the "Dictionary" button next to the title of the web site. What happens when you click on any of the text in the web site?
